Music and Nature, reloaded
Nature is a fairy tale, nature is a commodity, nature is the domain of the natural sciences, nature belongs to us. Really? Or do we belong to nature? Nature is comfort, nature is shock, nature is calming, nature is ruthless. Can the continual whisper of art and music make an impact on nature and the global discourse surrounding it? If yes, how? How do western and non-western approaches to nature differ? In what way does gender matter? Is nature part of national identities? Can we move beyond romanticism on the one hand and nature exploitation on the other to new perspectives? This conference is our contribution to the international discourse on climate change and global warming. Will you join us?

Music and Nature, reloaded – International Conference

Explore with us in lectures, workshops and a concert: Music and environmentalism, indigenous cultures, gender and nature myths, sound scapes, global warming and culture, music and politics – musics especially from Iceland, but also from Germany, Canada and the rest of the world. Speakers are from Iceland, Latvia, Switzerland, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain and Germany. The Conference is a follow-up of the conference “music and nature” held in Kópavogur (May 2011) and is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the research project History|Herstory at the University of Music and Dance, Cologne.

Entdecken Sie gemeinsam mit uns in Vorträgen, Workshops und einem Jazz-Konzert: Musik und Umwelt, indigene Kulturen, Gender und Naturmythen, Sound scapes, globale Erwärmung und Kultur, Musik und Politik – mit Musikbeispielen aus Island, aber auch aus Deutschland, Kanada und dem Rest der Welt. Die Vortragenden kommen aus Island, Lettland, der Schweiz, Kanada, Schweden, Grossbritannien und Deutschland. Die Konferenz ist die Weiterführung einer Tagung, die im Mai 2011 in Kopavogur stattgefunden hat. Sie wird von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft und dem Forschungsprojekt History|Herstory an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln finanziert.
